CONNECTING SCARBOROUGH TO THE HINTERLAND, THE SEA AND ITSELF

Outside of the town centre, the vision for Scarborough is to provide a green connection to every suburb, by upgraded valleys, by green boulevards and by trying to ensure that the suburbs don't continue to stretch out beyond their present limits.
Scarborough should seek to keep and upgrade its connection with an accessible hinterland.

Serious problems, such as flooding on the foreshore, cliff erosion, landslides and lack of maintenance put pressure on Scarborough's public space and budget. Along the Seamer Road valley large warehouses and industry render the approach to Scarborough generically bad, hiding the asset of the Mere.
By implementing the Park and Ride that is currently awaiting approval, and in the longer term by providing an alternate link into town for this facility, the summer traffic jams can be alleviated and the Mere rediscovered.
This is after all the birthplace of water-skiing (as local legend would have it).

Along the coastline, planting and stabilising vegetation will help sustain the coastal slopes from surface erosion. It will provide a lower maintenance naturalistic enviroment compared to the existing more manicured parkland. Adjoining Peasholm Valley the under-used space of the old railway line will be reused through the introduction of a Linear Park and the possible development of some new housing fronting it.
On the wider scale, upcoming projects have been considered and allowed for in the Public Space Framework: the South Bay Pool, refurbishment of the Spa, the redevelopment of the Futurist and the Opera House area all need to proceed to address locations that are in decay.
Infrastructure priorities to the Dunslow Road business park will ensure that this additional engine for Scarborough's economy can keep functioning and grow, providing new jobs as new industry is attracted.

The result aims to be a town with a greater connectivity to itself and the physical and social environment that surrounds it.
