Sandside & New Marina Pontoons

Beginnings :
In November 2004 Yorkshire Forward commissioned LDA (Landscape Design Associates) to develop detailed design proposals for the Harbour's public realm. The Harbour Project was to be the first piece of new public realm to be delivered in Scarborough through Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance programme and was to set a benchmark of quality for subsequent projects in the town.

The Plan :
The £2.8 million project was to install pontoons to accommodate 60 berths for boats in Scarborough's inner harbour and to transform the Sandside area by improving facilities and the environment.

The land-based improvements involve :
* New surfacing for the footpaths
* Contemporary seating
* Contemporary lighting scheme
* Sculpture depicting a diving belle (funded by the Scarborough Civic Society)

The water-based improvements involve :
* 60 new permanent berths
* Additional space for visiting boats
* Improved facilities providing deeper berthing of up to 3 metres for boats of up to 12 metres in length.

Progress :

* July 2007
Ceremonies of officially naming the redevelopment of Sandside and also the new floating pontoons in the harbour were made during the annual Seafest weekend.

* May 2007
Work completed
Diving Belle Sculpture was officially unveiled on the Lighthouse Pier.
* April 2007
The first of the new lamps are now up and look like jewels sparkling on the north wharf.

* March 2007

* November 2006
