Urban Space Group meeting in the Cavalier Suite of the Royal Hotel Thursday 08 October 2009 starting at 19h15. Agenda (main points) 1) Scarborough Live Project '09 - Dean Road & St. Mary's Hospital Redevelopment International Design Competition We are privileged to have with us a group of Sheffield University architecture & urban design students who are currently preparing a competition brief for a possible international urban design competition for the area of Dean Road and St. Mary's Hospital. The students will be presenting their thoughts and research to date and will be looking to encourage a lively debate on what people feel the future of the site could be, with a view to producing a truly inspirational vision statement for the competition. This is of course happening against the background of the production of the current draft development brief and we hope that this project can play its part in positively influencing the development of the area. This exciting 6-week 'live' project is the second of its kind to be held in Scarborough in consecutive years (last year's project gave us the 'The Old Railway Line' proposals, research & marketing strategies) and the students' input promises once again to be of extreme value to the town. 2. Local Design Review Panel We have now received a response from the Borough Council, with respect to their current position on the desirability and / or viability of establishing a local design review system for potential planning applications. The meeting will be given an opportunity to comment on their reply and discuss how further progress can be made on this issue. In addition to the above, we will as usual carry the latest news, issues and project updates from around the town, including the following items: 1. Management Investment Plan 2. Outer Harbour Design Competition 3. Station Area consultation process 4. Linear Park 5. The Spa Complex 6. Market Square 7. Manor Road Park & Old Railway Line 8. Urban Space 'Scrapbook' 9. Housing Strategy Regards, Nick Hart Chair - Urban Space Group http://www.scarborough-renaissance.blogspot.com The Urban Space Group is part of Scarborough Renaissance.
